Gossip Girl: Lily van der Woodsen

She's one of my favourite characters from Gossip Girl, if not THE favourite.

Tall and blonde, thin and super poised, Lily was described in the book as "the middle aged version of utter coolness".

And she really is. A beautiful and slender Kelly Rutherford plays the fictional Lily van der Woodsen flawlessly in the much celebrated TV series.

Call it trashy teen shows if you must (that's what Bee calls it anyway), I ain't gonna say no to anything with hot boys and girls with an even hotter wardrobe and fabulous parties.

But even among all the pretty young things, Lily van der Woodsen isn't outshone at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

I love it whenever she comes on the screen. She's so sophisticated and elegant in her every move, and she never fails to hold her poise even in the most unpleasant or embarrassing situations.

I love the way she speaks, the way she rolls her eyes, the way she holds her wine glass, the way she chews, the way she walks, the way she holds her handbags, the way she smiles, the way tears well up in her eyes...oh I love everything about her! Well, almost.

After the first few episodes of Season 1, I nearly wrote her off as another arrogant and pretentious good-for-nothing socialite, who also happens to be a distant and critical mother.

But as the season went on, her character developed into something totally unexpected - a complicated woman who strives to be a better person and a better mother the best ways she knows of.

Sure she fails at times, and she makes mistakes, but beneath that cold porcelain-like Upper East Side exterior, lies a genuine soul and a big warm heart. That's when I fell in love with her.

And despite having a problematic teenage daughter and a depressed teenage son, she still manages to always look so graceful and effortlessly stunning.

Women like her only gets better as they age, and I only hope that I have half of her elegance when I'm "middle-aged". Minus the multiple divorces, of course.

Here's hoping that we'll get to see more of Lily in Season 2 of Gossip Girl (she's FINALLY coming back in episode 4!).

You know you love me. XOXO.

I don't watch Gossip Girl, even with the hype around it. I just cannot tahan the beautiful clothes, the beautiful hair, the beautiful people....make me so jealous I wanna stab the TV screen =P

But you know which character I feel like this the way you do for Lily?

Amanda Tanen from Ugly Betty. Yeah the bitchy one. God, I wish I am her.

Yep, like the constantly dramatic one said... used to watch it also. Then it got kinda depressing because it's mostly about backstabbing/bitchy etc etc... cannot tahan also. :D

But damn, their clothes are nice!

I don't really follow this series though I have watched a long 30 mins of one episode. I guess when you missed out on the 1st/2nd episodes, it is just too hard to follow through the story. May be I'm just slow.

The Constantly Dramatic One: Bitchy is the new "IT" charm, that's all I can say. Outgoes vanilla, bring on feisty bitchiness! :D

Ann: Yeah, all the power struggle and petty cat fights can get a lil tiring and so "high school" (wait,it IS high school), but at least those gals are hot while doing it and hence it's fun to watch. And at the end of the day, they're still just a bunch of kids pretending to be adults. Most of them are actually good-natured and have genuine friendships. I totally can't stand those evil scheming dramas in HK series, they turn my blood cold. :/

Doreen: It didn't impress me much too when I caught a random episode on TV, but I was hooked when I watched the whole Season 1 (well, the first 13 episodes anyway) back to back in ONE day. I mainly watch it for the hot gals, hot parties, and even hotter fashion. I WANT Blair Waldorf's wardrobe!!!!
