Spring Resolution 3 - Scar Be Gone

I've had this little scar on my face for at least the past 5 years.

It's located at about an inch from my jawline, and an inch below my left earlobe.

I remember it started off as a pimple, and I have this bad habit of picking at my face. Take it from me, girls, don't do this. Seriously, DON'T!

It's easier said than done though. I know it's a bad habit with capital B, but I just can't help it.

It's part of my obsessive compulsive personality, I guess. *Shrugs*

So after I kept picking at what used to be a pimple and not giving it a chance to heal, the scab started to turn into a permanent scar.

It's about the size of a red bean, with raised and hardened skin. Kinda like a corn? Pardon the gross analogy, it's the closest thing I can think of.

I'm sorry about the poor quality of picture, I only thought about taking a picture of it when I was at the doctor's waiting room. So these were taken with my phone camera.

As you can clearly see from the picture, I've been picking at it again. Yeah, I got an earful from the dermatologist too.

I just can't stop! It's a force much bigger and stronger than me. I constantly pick at it (and many other spots of my face) without myself realising it, and sometimes I peel off the hardened skin until it bleeds. I know, major eww!

Can you imagine, for the past 5 years, I have been walking around with this permanent "pimple" on my face?

I guess I'm not that vain afterall, to tolerate such unsightly scar on my face for so long. If only I get a penny every time someone mistaken it for a pimple. :/

But I finally decided that I've had enough, and it's time to change.

In the uplifting spirit of spring, I went to my dermatologist and got it removed by laser.

It was a quick process that took some local anaesthetic and less than 10 minutes. It still stung a bit even with the jab, and the smell of burning flesh wasn't exactly enticing.

This is how it looked like after the procedure. (Caution: Not for the faint-hearted!)

It looks pretty bad now, like a small chunk of meat had been taken out. Hopefully with regular application of antibiotic cream and no picking (!), it will heal nicely in 2 weeks time.

No picking, no picking, no picking. Now how do I drum that into my head?

Wish me luck, girls!

Hi,

I know exactly what you mean by picking but ouch that procedure looks painful! Will it leave another scar in its place though?

Mind sharing your dermatologist details? I have been looking for a good one to visit to cure my scars too!

Ms Wedding Fluff: Mine might leave a scar, because it involves more than just superficial tissues. Here's hoping that it won't be worse than what it originally was.

With the help of local anaesthesia, the procedure wasn't anything unbearable. It stung a bit at times, but nothing terribly painful. And afterwards, you can hardly feel a thing.

Drop me an email if you want the contact details of my dermatologist. :)

NO PICKING!!!!!!!!!

p/s: Hey girls, there seem to be some funny problem with your comment link in some post, sometimes they disappear, like now, I can't seem to find that link on the previous 2 posts. Weird.

Cc: Oh that. Well, it's another weird habit of mine. :P

I make it a point to read and reply every comment left on my blog, because personally I much prefer it when my comments are replied/taken notice of on the blogs I read.

In order to make sure that I don't neglect any comment at all, I tend to disable comments on my old posts when I put up new ones.

I guess I'm just uptight even when it comes to little things like the housekeeping of my blog. :/

I'm sorry if it had created inconveniences for anyone, I'll try to bear that in mind and keep comments of each post open for a longer time yeah? :)

I face the same problem with cc too! It's not that we're not allowed to post comments, but we can't even see the comments LINK at all. We can't even view previous comments for the 2nd previous post (with the Kelly Clarkson video). Anyway, regarding the laser process, the 'after' picture was giving me goosebumps! I hope it will heal nicely and PLEASE do not pick it anymore ok! :)

Do you know that the last picture looks like a gun shot?

I do that same too. why? I believe that if you don't pinch the pimple, it will become 'harden', and later become 'corn'.

argh!!! I have a super big pimple near my jawline now!!!

OMG! That is all kinds of scray.

From today onwards, take good care of your skin :P. And remember to avoid taking soy sauce or those black sauce. I'm now sure if it would really cause the healing scar to turn into dark color but I was told about this by my grandparents since young. Not sure if you are aware of it or believe in it :P. Anway, take care gal!

It's done by a professional, so don't you worry about it. It will heal up nicely (provided you leave it alone i.e. no more picking!)

I too have something like this on my back near my shoulder. My case is quite the opposite from you. It was a big, painful pimple, and I didn't even pick. It was left alone to heal by itself but NO. It eventually turned into a permanent raised, brown spot! (>_<)! That's how evil this thing is! (>_<)

Ah, I too have that bad habit at times, when my fingers start to "wander" around and found something to "play" with =p
Wish you best of luck. Most chinese elderly will tell you not to eat prawns, peanuts, eggs, and the like after having minor surgery or suffering from wounds. So, just take note. Better be cautious than sorry. Now, I sound like an elderly =X

Hope the scar will heal nicely ya.

Guys do this too except they don't care whether it will leave a scar or not : )

Iamthewitch: Here's hoping that my comment links don't just start vanishing into thin air for no reason. Hopefully it's an once-off incident.

Prettybeautiful: I know what you meant when you said "the temptation and satisfaction are overwhelming". We all love that satisfying feeling of pulling something off/outta our skin, don't we? Ugh!

Molly: Haha. I assure you it's MUCH smaller than a gun shot wound, and I didn't lose much blood over it.

Josephine: Lol. It's quite the opposite, darling. Try using Benzac cream, or any zit treatment cream that contains benzoyl peroxide, and a gentle cleanser. Don't pick it!

The Constantly Dramatic One: Lol. Hopefully those pictures will scare off some of you gals to never pick at your skin like I did. Now now, ain't my blog educational. :P

Emotionalistic: Haha. My mum used to tell me the same thing. But I love dark/soy sauce too much to give it up, even when I had chicken pox. :P

Doreen: It sounds like a sebaceous cyst, hun. I can't be sure without looking at it, of course. But if it is what I think it is, it can be easily removed by your doctor by minimal excision. Do get it looked at, ya? :)

Olive Poppy said...

Ld: Thanks. I've been a real good girl actually. Haven't picked at it at all. Well, so far, at least. Hehe.

Petite Lass: Oops, I think I've eaten just about everything you mentioned. :P But the wound looks like it's healing alright (from the surface anyway), so let's keep our fingers crossed huh? :)

Che-Cheh: Haha. Good to know that I'm not the only one with the bad habit. :D

Foongpc: But you guys do care if the scar is on your girlfriend's/wife's face, yes? :)
